John Yeo would be considered by most to be a newcomer to the blogging field, but he brings a
fresh approach to teaching blogging concepts and tasks that makes his content compelling.
What's interesting about John's approach is that he rarely gets bogged down in the details.
While the content is detailed in areas, for many subjects he explains the concepts, and then shows
you free tools you can use on the web to carry out tasks associated with those concepts.
The book contains a good section on discovering your niche, which is an area that doesn't
receive as much attention in other books as it should. While the author's flagship blog (a wedding
blog) was a labor of love, the author is quick to point out that your niche must have a market in
order to be profitable. This breaks the usual dogma of "do what you love," an approach I agree with
in full.
The book also covers how to create a blog, apply themes, customize your blog, and options for
filling it with content. John takes a more agnostic approach than other books, showing you how to
perform these tasks with both Wordpress and Blogger.
Blogging newcomers will find the "show me" approach to be very helpful, as John includes
annotated screenshots showing you how to not only create your blog, but also how to promote it, use
web 2.0, and monetize it.
While some vital topics aren't covered in the course, the unique approach and quality content,
combined with the 12-part SEO video series, make this is a solid package for the blogging
newcomer.
Meets Stated Objectives?

This is a solid package. While most of the bases are covered, there are some notable
omissions.
Ease of Use

Getting started still requires a blog setup. There are step-by-step instructions, but Expert
WordPress makes the setup simpler.
Customer Support

Support is excellent, and questions are likely to be met with a friendly and knowledgeable
response.
Value for Money

The recent price increase makes Blogger's Paycheck less attractively priced than on its
release.

Overall Rating

Blogger's Paycheck takes a holistic approach to blogging, and its
straightforward and approachable content makes the package easy to consume for
the blogging newcomer.
